Sons Shine BrightThese elections are different from the
previous in more than one way. Apart from the film stars blazing the
road to Lok Sabha, we see the new generation entering the politics; the
new generation of the political families. They are all coming in in a
big way. The older are leaving way for them. Let us have a look into who
are these young successors.
Rahul Gandhi The Nehru- Gandhi family has given six presidents to Congress and three Prime Ministers. They can be rightly called the First Family of Indian politics. Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and now Rahul Gandhi Seem to be a part of the Indian political Scene just because of the name-pressure or can say the dynastic pressure. Rahul Gandhi is contesting from Amethi, the family constituency. Dushyant Singh Son of Vasundhara Raje, Maharani, Dholpur and Chief Miniater Rajasthan, is contesting from his mother's erstwhile Lok Sabha Constituency of Jhalawar. Before this he was working for some private firm in Bostan and had campaigned for his mother during Assebmly elections. Vijayraje Scindia was the first in the dynasty to enter politics. Jyotiraditya Scindia Son of Late Madhavrao Scindia and grandson of Vijayraje Scindia entered into politics in 1999 is contesting from Guna. He is the heir to Madhav rao Scindia and is cashing on is popularity with the masses along with his own mature approach towards issues. He is the third generation Scindia in Politics. Sachin Pilot Contesting form his father, Rajesh Pilot's constituency of Dausa in Rajasthan, says he wants to be recogonised as Sachin and not his fatherr's son. After Rajesh Piolt died in 2000, the constituency went to his mother. She has now vacated the place for Sachin Pilot. Omar Abdullah The Family has dominated Kashmir politics from the begning. Omar Abdullah's Grandfather Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was the key person in Kashmir's accession. Second in line was Farooq Abdullah and now Omar Abdullah has taken over the reins if National Conference. He is contesting from Srinagar. Sandeep Dikshit Grandson of UmaShankar Dikshit and son of Sheila Dikshit, he had campaigned for his mother in precious elections. He is contesting from East Delhi Parliamentary Contstituency. He says that entry into politics is easy for those from political families for one is already a known figure. Akhilesh Yadav Son of Mulayam Singh Yadav, he is contesting from his father's constituency of Kannauj. The seat had fell vacant when Mulayam Singh Yadav resigned after being elected from there in 1999. Akhilesh had been sent to Sydney University for higher studies and is an image conscious person. There are many other such names that can be identified as successors of their parents in politics, be it Om Prakash Chautala, Mehbooba Mufti, Manvendra Singh, Milind Deora. Politics is their family trade. Politics is their lifeline. |
