Election '04' - Some Interesting Facts

149 CONSTITUENCIES FACE RE-POLL TODAY

New Delhi, Apr.28 (ANI): Re-polling will be held in 149 polling stations today as peer the Election Commission's directive.

The polling stations are spread over five of the 11 states where the second phase of Lok Sabha elections were held on Monday.

Re-polling would be held in 93 polling booths in Andhra Pradesh, 25 in Uttar Pradesh, 14 in Assam and three in Manipur.

The EC has also ordered re-polling in 17 booths in five Parliamentary constituencies in Karnataka where the poll process was disrupted in the second and final phase of elections.

Incidents of electronic voting machines being set on fire, malfunctioning of EVMs and electoral malpractices and clashes were the main reasons for the EC to take this step.

The Election Commission has said that no decision had been taken on re-polling in Maharashtra, Bihar, Jharkhand and Orissa and that Jammu and Kashmir and Goa did not require re-polling. (ANI)
