BJP, JD(U) begin dharna in Ranchi

March 02, 2005

The BJP-JD(U) combine on Tuesday night began an indefinite dharna in front of the Raj Bhavan in Ranchi to demand that it be invited by the Governor to form the government.

Pitching a shamiana in front of the main gate of the Raj Bhavan, the NDA leaders, including BJP national vice-president Babulal Marandi, BJP general secretary Ananth Kumar and JDU president Inder Singh Namdhari are on a sit-in along with a number of alliance MLAs.

Earlier, BJP general secretary in charge of Jharkhand, Rajnath Singh, had said that they would sit on a dharna as the Governor had not called the alliance to form the government even after seven hours since the BJP-JDU combine had submitted a list of 41 MLAs required to form the government.

Singh said that the dharna would continue till the Governor invited the NDA legislature party leader Arjun Munda to form the government.
