Shashi
Tharoor, former UN Under-Secretary General and a noted writer, is all
set to contest the Lok Sabha elections as a Congress candidate from
Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala. Born in London, Tharoor got his education
in India. He made a record by completing his Ph.D at the age of 22.
To a TV channel, Shashi Tharoor said that this is a challenge for him
and since there are only four weeks left, he'll have to work hard. He
added that he will be meeting as many people as possible.
Tharoor is pitted against Ramachandran Nair, the current
Thiruvananthapuram district secretary of the Communist Party of India
(CPI) and the candidate of the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF).
Tharoor recently visited Congress leader K. Karunakaran and sought his
support and blessings. He is set to formally launch his campaign at the
district party headquarters.
