Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi in News
  • Rahul Gandhi of Congress won in Amethi, UP [13 May 2004]
  • Rahul Gandhi(Congress) leads in Amethi [13 May 2004]

Indian National Congress-SymbolRahul Gandhi visited Amethi on 29th March. He won many hearts. The people were delighted to see a young leader they can now vote for. Rahul GandhiBeing a 33 year financial consultant would certainly help him comprehend the issues faced by the constituencies he would visit. Being young, he would also be able to envision an amicable solution. His entry into active politics was well received by people. People started shouting 'Long live Rahul' and 'Welcome to our next PM" as soon as they could get a glimpse of him. Congress loyalists swear by him.

Described as shy and genteel, Rahul is seen as the dark horse with a detailed knowledge of constituency profiles and a back room operator. Many claim he can energize the party and attract young voters in a country where more than 60 per cent of the people are under 35 years of age.

Congress's idea of promoting Rahul Gandhi has been there for a while. However, the timing of his launch so to say has sparked-off wrong vibes. Many in the ruling coalition are of the opinion that his launch was probably an attempt to bring-in unity into an otherwise broken party. Infact around the same time of Rahul's launch Muslim leaders of Jamai-e-islami has approached Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and urged her to bring in more unity into the party and its patrons. Issues concerning Samajwadi Party's slot in the parliamentary seats quota was also discussed. It is issues like these that have been bothering congress for sometime. In the wake of the same, Congress launched Rahul Gandhi into the arena to promote a 'feel-good-factor' in the Congress contestants.
