Jayaprada in News
  • Jayaprada of Samajwadi Party wins in Rampur,UP [13 May 2004]

BJP-SymbolJayapradaBollywood star Jayaprada sprang a surprise by becoming Samajwadi Party candidate from Rampur Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh to upset the apple cart of Congress stalwart Begum Noor Banu, who represented the seat in the dissolved house, The film star, contesting from the country's highest Muslim-dominated constituency will also be facing Rajendra Sharma, the BJP candidate for the Lok Sabha seat. Despite hailing from faraway Rajamundhry in Andhra Pradesh, she is confident of making it insisting that she is "no run-of-the-mill" candidate and that her humble beginnings will stand her in good stead. She said that she had the experience of working on gender issues and problems as a Rajya Sabha member of the Telugu Desam Party. Not relying on her reel-image for becoming a real MP, she said she would conduct door-to-door campaign and meetings in Rampur as also address rallies in key places like Allahabad, Lucknow, Agra and Benares for the party.
