Born
Govind Ahuja on 21st December, 1963 in Virar (a small township on the
outskirts of Bombay) and re-christened Govinda, a lower middle-class boy
. Pahlaj Nihalani's 'Ilzaam' (1986) was Govinda's real ticket to fame.
The film established Chichi's (as he's popularly known) credentials as a
dancing star and fetched him a truckload of offers. So much so, Govinda
is now considered the undisputed king of comedy and remains one of the
most saleable actors on the scene.
Govinda will contest on a Congress ticket from Mumbai (north) Lok Sabha
constituency against Union Minister Ram Naik of BJP.Govinda, to whom the
news of his nomination was conveyed by Maharashtra Chief Minister Sushil
Kumar Shinde at the actor's residence, said it would be his humble
attempt to meet the "lowest of the lowest" in his constituency
and try to understand their problems. Govinda is the latest in a line of
Bollywood stars who have joined the Congress party or promised to
campaign for it.
