
Quilon or Kollam in Kerala is the centre of
the country's cashew nut trading and processing industry. It is one
of the oldest ports on the Malabar coast. Quilon was once the port
of international spice trade. Ashtamudi Lake covers 30% of this
historic town, making it the gateway to the magnificent backwaters
of Kerala. The district also has some interesting historic remains
and a number of temples built in the traditional rich architectural
style.
