ECI Announces GE Schedule for Jharkhand
Legislative Assembly
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the schedule
for the General Elections (GE) to the legislative assembly of Jharkhand
(to be held in five phases). Keeping in view the due expiry of the term
of the legislative assembly on 18th January 2009, the ECI has come up
with the election dates for 81 assembly constituencies (ACs). The
polling would begin on 25th November 2009 (for phase 1) and end on 18th
December 2009 (for phase 5). The counting for all five phases would take
place on 23rd December 2009. The current election would be held as per
the Bihar Reorganisation Act, 2000.
Schedule for Jharkand
Assembly Elections The general election to the legislative
assembly of Jharkhand would be held in five phases in 81 ACs (out of
which 9 are reserved for Scheduled Castes [SCs] and 28 for Scheduled
Tribes [STs]).

Additional Information
- Hours of poll: 7.00 am to 3.00 pm
- Date of counting: 23-12-2009 (Wednesday)
- Total number of polling stations: 23,944
- Total number of electors: 1,80,27,476
- Model code of conduct comes into force with immediate effect from
October 23, 2009 (date of release of election schedule by the ECI).
- For easy identification of voters, photo electoral rolls and
electoral photo identity cards (EPIC) would be used. Electors having
photo electoral rolls and EPICs issued will be identified through
them only. The residual electors are advised to get their EPICs
issued from the electoral registration officers of their assembly
constituencies. Currently, Jharkhand has 74.19 per cent electors
with photo electoral rolls and 77.63 per cent electors with EPIC.
The state plans to increase their coverage by election time.
- The poll will be conducted at all polling stations using
electronic voter machines (EVMs)
