ECI Announces Schedule
for By-Elections
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has
announced the schedule for by-elections in the legislative assemblies of
Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Rajasthan, Chattisgarh,
and West Bengal and in the House of People from 20 - Firozabad P.C of
Uttar Pradesh to fill the vacant seats. The polling for all seven state
assemblies and the House of People from 20 - Firozabad P.C would occur
on 7th November 2009. In total, for the legislative assemblies, the
candidates would be contesting for 31 assembly constituencies (ACs), out
of which 2 are reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC) and 3 for Scheduled
Tribes (ST).

- Model code of conduct comes into force with immediate effect from
October 5, 2009 (date of release of election schedule by the ECI).
